Types of Ovarian Cysts
There are many types of ovarian cysts. They can be catorgized as non-cancerous or cancerous. The good news is that most are non-cancerous.
Types of:
- Follicular Cyst - most common simple cyst, forms when ovulation doesn't happen
- Corpus Luteum Cyst - occurs after the egg has been released
- Hemorrhagic Cysts - occurs when a small blood vessel in the wall of the cyst breaks and the blood enters the cyst
- Dermoid Cysts - relatively rare cyst. Can contain fat and occasionally hair, bone, nails, teeth, eyes, cartilage, and thyroid tissue
- Endometriomas/Endometrioid Cysts - occurs when endometrial tissue bleeds and grows inside the ovaries
- Pathological Cysts - enlarged size, usually twice normal, with small cysts present around the outside of the ovary
